Secret Camping Spots

California Camping Holidays

California has many wonderful places to go camping. You can choose from desert locations such as the Mojave Desert, or Death Valley through to small our beach parks, parks close to the city and suburban areas as well as camping the wonderful pine forests. No matter what your choice, California is a great place to go camping.

One thing to be aware of though, is that many camping spots in California, and very popular. Therefore, any time during summer, holiday weekends, or even on Friday nights on a normal weekend these camping spots can fill a very quickly. The best way to make certain that you have a place to sleep is to reserve your camp site with the appropriate local authority.

Coastal Camping.

One of my favourite, California coastal camp spots is Pismo Beach. It has lots of things to do, including hiking, great swimming, surf fishing, and clam hunting. During winter you can watch the annual migration of millions of Monarch Butterflies, because this park has the largest wintering colony of these beautiful insects in the whole of the United States.

Desert Camping.

When you think of the Mojave Desert your first reaction is desolation and isolation. Whilst this is true in many parts of the reserve, you'll also find some very interesting rock formations among the sand dunes. You'll also find lots of vegetation such as Joshua Trees, Sage and Juniper bushes.

Country Camping.

Clear Lake near San Francisco Bay, has lovely rolling hills and a large recreational lake near its camp grounds. The clean air and abundant wildlife, help to make this a year-round attraction, and an ideal family getaway. This is the quintessential camping experience, where you can fish in a clear lake, whilst looking at the mountains on the horizon.

Mountain Camping.

If looking at the mountains on the horizon isn't good enough for you, then perhaps you should consider a mountain camping holiday. Big Bear Lake is just such a place. You can enjoy this Alpine community in both summer and winter, and if the camping gets too much there are numerous local hotels and cabins to rent. No matter what your choice of activity: be it hiking, fishing, kayaking, or even just cooking up a hearty breakfast around an open campfire; you will find it here

City camping.

If you're not feeling quite so adventurous, or a new to camping, you should try a camping holiday, close to city areas. An example of this are the forest lands, near Los Angeles. Camping in these areas, allows you to taking the full outdoor experience, but if it all gets too much. It's still only a short drive from the city. There is a price to pay for this convenience, though, being this close to the city means that your views may be hidden by the smog that comes up from the coastal basin. This area is also a prone to brush fires, so if camping in summer it pays to check out any warnings.

So there you have it, no matter what you are looking for in a camping holiday. You will find it in California. Happy California camping!
